Walleye

Winter  is still here -down to 19 degrees last night. This last few days have been very cold and as a result the walleye fishing has been very slow. we did not see any fish brought in to the shop yesterday., but we are hoping for better results this weekend . The water temp is still at the right temp to have triggered that first wave of fish to run upstream.  I imagine good number have begun to move upstream but this bitter cold front has anything  that is in river slowed  down and in active.  Its going to warm up in the next few days so that should make a good difference.

Today with the water about normal  and increased current .  36-48 inch leader. And go with 5/8 – 3/4- 1 oz weights to hit bottom.

Try some of the most reliable colors today to see it you can trigger some bites

Crappies
The Crappie bite has been good the last week or so.  Crappie  react much like largemouths and smallmouths when confronted with an unexpected cold push. They’ll abandon the shallows—moving into deeper creek channels in adjacent areas.

A solid rule of thumb for cold-front crappies is to pay close attention to your water-temperature gauge. If there is less than a 2-degree shift in water temperature, begin in the same coves or locations where non-cold-front crappies hang. If the water has cooled more than 2 degrees, start searching for submerged deep-water breaks.

Look in treetops, standing timber, brush piles, or any pronounced vertical structure and cover. Once you’ve pinpointed the fish, use presentations that will keep the bait close to cover. Marabou, soft-plastics, or tube jigs can crush cold front crappies . Stay very tight to structure.

We are fully stocked with lake Erie shiners.
