No fish brought in yesterday, tough day on the river with the temps starting out at 16 degrees and only reaching a high of 33. Today on the other hand is supposed to reach a high near 50  and then continuing to warm and a little rain throughout the rest of the week. Cold fronts are the bane of anglers everywhere. Whether you’re chasing walleyes, crappies, or bass, few things kill a hot bite faster than the arrival of a severe front that causes air temperatures to nosedive and once-aggressive fish to hunker down with their jaws wired shut.

Its no secret that lead head jigs are accountable for an awful lot of walleyes. A productive way  to catch a walleye is to simply bounce a  lead jig along the bottom, trying to avoid the isnags. Casting jigs is also simple and tops for producing walleyes holding in shallow water. Cast and reel, making a mental note as to how fast or slow you are reeling. Vary speeds until someone catches a fish and than match the speed. Walleyes will often follow the jig on the retrieve and the hits often come as the jig changes angle and starts traveling back to the angler.

The bulk and extra vibration provided by a larger twister tail can make a difference in stained/muddy wwater. Also, the extra bulk can slow down the rate at which the jig falls through the water, which can be effective at times.

Today

Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. South wind around 11 mph.

Tonight
A slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Monday

Have fun, be safe and good luck fishing
