Fishing report- 15 October 2025

Mine’s bigger than Buckshot’s! Whoop whoop!

Never know when you’re gonna find a couple jumbo’s in the school you’re fishing.

First let’s start by talking about Lake Erie . We haven’t had any serious rain since June, so as everybody knows the water levels and water temperature have been severely affected. The Perch bite this season has been OK at best. They are full of those spiny sand fleas, and haven’t been really interested in in biting minnows.

Now even though we’re getting towards the end of the season that’s about to change, as the water temperature drops and those sand fleas stop reproducing ,there’s less and less of them in the water. So therefore the Perch become more interested in feeding on Minnows. If you still have your boat in the water, and/or want to jump on one of the head boats this time of the year, you might yet get into some good perch fishing .

Planning a fish fry? Need a big batch of fish for a group or church function?

We just got in a fresh batch of Lake Erie Gold, thats  perch if ya dont know.  Cleaned ,bagged and ready for the frying pan. Available for sale in 1lb, 2lb  and 5lb bags, at our Lake shop on Corduroy rd and our Maumee shop on Wayne st  in  Uptown Maumee.

Some of these fillets are 1 lbs by themselves -good , I mean really good sandwiches !

The Maumee River: Wow for the 3rd year in a row we are low. Literally rock-bottom low.

We need rain.

Turtles and Rain

Sometimes the Old ways are the best ways. In keeping with Native American tradition the kids and I did a little turtle drawing and dancing. Not enough it seems as we only got light drizzle today.
  • Rain Dances and Symbols:
Some  Native American tribes perform rain dances and use turtle imagery to bring rain. For instance, in a practice where a turtle’s outline is drawn in the sand, a stick is driven through the drawing to invoke the rain god, which often resulted in rain.
In a mural depicting a ceremonial rain dance, turtle shells are worn by dancers, and the turtles’ presence in the mural is associated with clouds and lightning, symbolizing moisture and water.
If you want to fish the river your best bet to find 3ft or slightly more of water is down at white street access or downtown toledo . Toss in a nightcrawler and getcha some catfish.
As the water cools and we get more rain, and we will cause y’all bout to be some rain dancin fools, we will start to look for some walleye and steelhead in the river.
Shore fishing on the lake is bout to kick into gear as well. We are stocked up on crankbaits, reels/rods and long nets.

Have fun , be safe and good luck fishing.
