Lake Erie and Maumee River Report- August 7 ,2017

Maumee River

We had a great weekend on the river. Saw Multiple 20lb and larger catfish caught-Reports of a few 40 pounders caught as well.  Multiple species  were caught all weekend. Gar, smallmaouth bass, bluegill, and a few white bass .

Not a whole lot to it in the river this time of year, throw out a night crawler or a live crawfish(which we have in stock) and hang on!  Also tghe chatterbaits and any craintbait resembling a minnow or crawfish are working really well. The low water level allows for fishing and wadeing just about any area that you chooose/

Lake Erie

August is a prime month on Lake Erie.  Lake Erie’s western basin walleye fishing continues to be excellent.  Offshore trolling trips over 10 miles are the norm, fishing with crawler harnesses, body baits and spoons rigged off dipsy divers, wire line and planer boards.  Perch are begining to concentrate and being caught.

September -Perch fishing on Lake Erie gets into full swing.  You will continue to catch walleyes into October, though not as fast paced as the prime summer months, as they are on their migratory moves.  We begin to see steelhead trout show up near shore!  Whether you choose perch or walleye you should do well on your trip.

October fishing duplicates September’s as long as gale force winds do not force you off the water.  Depending on their geographic location you can catch steelhead trout, as well as excellent charters for yellow perch.  Depending on mother nature sometimes walleyes park themselves along the shoreline, and the shore /pier fishing can be awesome.

Today

Variable winds 10 knots or less early, becoming northwest then becoming north. A chance of showers this afternoon. Waves 1 foot or less.

Surface Temp 75
Water Clarity: Good, stained but clearing back up quick.

We have Fathead Minnows
We do have Frozen Emerald Shiners in the store as well

Trolling:
Turnaround Buoy and Northwest Reef, and Border F&G Cans have produced some good fish. North of West Sister. The undersized walleye are everywhere from what reports we are getting, Crawlers harnesses, Jets and spoons, .

Drifting:
Reports coming from the border, north of the island, and during low light they are still working off Crane Creek, the Intake, around K and L Cans, Locust, Flat Rock, Cone and Crib low light hours. Crawler harnesses and bottom bouncers or casting Erie Dearies weight forwards .

Perch:
Good catches reported from B Can, North of C can, and sounds like A can may be starting back up. East of the Intake, and if you head East, over around D and G Cans .

Have fun, Be Safe and Good Luck Fishing
