Maumee river and Lake Erie report

Maumee river: this time of year the river is low and slow. Mainly what we’ve been seeing caught is Catfish on a nightcrawler we are seeing some smallmouth bass caught as well but not as frequently as the Catfish . We need some rain to bring the waters levels up and freshen up the river.

As we inch towards the end of summer there’s some great fall fishing opportunities in our future. When we do get some fall rain, it will cool the river off and spark those resident walleye and  steelhead trout.

Kayaking events :

You-pick and Kayak- come join us for an evening of kayaking and flower picking. Peace and serenity to be found o the river.

Paddle and groove: Listen to live band will floating down river. Next one after tonights event is Wed sept 11th.

Lake Erie:

The perch and walleye bite has been pretty decent, once the wins lay down. It has been windy consistently since last October, just one of those things mother nature throws at us. On the days that the wind is decent seen some good walleye caught off of trolling spoons and crank Baits. The perch bite has been very good especially with the vertical perch rigs such as the flutter fleas, and fishing addiction gear.
It’s that time of year when everybody wants emerald shiners and we and all the other bait shops do our best daily to try and get those for you all.

Fall pier fishing is right around the corner.

Fishing from piers for walleyes is like angling anywhere sometimes hot, sometimes not. The fishing can be spotty because the walleyes follow the food, mostly gizzard shad. If the shad stay offshore, so do the walleyes. But if the shad come in close, you can sometimes catch a walleye on every cast. Typically, shad schools hug the shoreline when offshore waters cool quickly. A chilly October tends to create better shore fishing than a mild October. November usually produces more consistent fishing, with water temperatures in the mid-40F range the key. In some  years, walleyes can be caught from shore well into December and as early as late September. In fall, they are on a major feeding binge because of lower water temperatures and an abundance of high-energy preyfish, basically fattning up for winter.
