Well the big warm up still hasnt happened. The river still has a thin layer of ice . It was wide open there for awhile but those temps that we had in the single digits last week really refroze thing up around here. The good news is that the city workers, park rangers, contract workers and many others of Maumee and Perrysburg haven’t forgotten about us walleye fishermen, and have been diligently working to clear the access areas that were clobbered by the ice and flooding last month. Shout out and many thanks to those men and women. River road running through Sidecut park was wiped out in a couple of sections, but if we can get a warm up they may be able to shore things up enough to get us through the run –full repairs probably wont be possible til late spring/ early summer due to the huge amount of river ice that is still in the area. You will probably still see ice chunks along the banks and roadways around that area until May.
Every year is different for the run. In years past we have seen March give us ice and snow, howling 60mph winds or 70 degrees days with no rain–regardless of what happens the walleye will run and we will be ready.
