This weekend was still a bit cold and the river was very low-almost 2 feet below normal levels. But last night the much needed rain arrived and is expected to continue throughout most of the day ,even better news is that Ft. Wayne Indiana where the Maumee river originates has been getting rain as well which should bring the water level up and warm the river just enough to get a fresh push of spawn minded walleye into our spawning grounds. Keep in mind that whatever was working before the rain came, might still be working afterward, but the odds are against it if the rain is followed by bright sunny conditions called for tommorow . Fishing after a rain you just have to remember a few basics about these conditions. Most of it is common sense. If the water is rising, fish will move shallower and spread out, if the water is falling they will move out deeper in to the river holes.

We did see some interesting things this weekend as a variety of species were caught. We had reports of  crappie( at secret  locations of course), steelhead at Bluegrass island, a few smallmouth bass , of course some suckers and carp. The walleye we saw brought in were mostly caught , near ford street access, Bluegrass isaland , Buttonwood and a few at jereome rd rapids.  All in all it was a relatively slow bite this weekend. But now with that rain it should change.

All fishing areas are accessible today and with the rain coming through we may see that action at White street and Orleans park pick up.
