Maumee River report. 27march 2025

5 ft leader and  1/2 to 5/8  oz weight

Wading to Bluegrass Island is permitted.

 

Yesterday was one of those days where you could get your limit if you stayed out 4 to 6 hours to grind it out. We did see a few quick twos and threes but mostly it was slow to steady. The river is very low, and the temperature of the water has dropped several degrees over the last few days, causing the fish to have Lockjaw so to speak  . Until we get rain the best places to hit will still Be Jerome Rd., Rapids throwing a three-quarter ounce. Buttonwood and Bluegrass . And Davis overlook throwing a very lightweight half ounce or less. I know some anglers went out to Orleans Park but you have to wade  3/4 of the way out into the river to get to water deep enough to hold those walleye. Again we need rain.

 

Walleyes have eyes that easily gather light so they have an advantage over most prey in dim light.

Walleyes have color vision that peaks in the orange-red-green portions of the spectrum. Overall, they see orange and red well, followed green and yellow. 

 

Remember that the walleye don’t just go up to Jerome Rapids and stop. Fish above the rapids for a change, not a soul was there yesterday despite waves of fresh walleye filling the river. Bendview park , which is a continuation of the Towpath and Farnsworth metro park ,which are also areas with very little fishing pressure.

Stop in and we can direct you to a nice peaceful area to fish.
