Last week’s extremely cold nights cooled the river down significantly. As a result, even though the river is full of white bass, the bite was kind of slow.
However the white perch have been biting very well the last week or so. Just drop a small hook and a weight down the bottom with a little bit of movement and hang on, results in a bucket full of perch .
If you find the right spot you’re gonna get into a mess of those white bass . The ones we’ve seen so far this year have been pretty big too. The white bass run is just getting started so be patient, but be ready.
Crappie-: Well we have a fresh batch of emerald shiners in the tank. But I haven’t heard a whole lot of crappie reports, so as soon as I hear something I’ll let you know.
Catfish: Banging them out in all areas of the river. I hear a lot of good reports downtown in that deep water. Those guys like to use shrimp for bait Up here in the faster, shallow water by us in Maumee, drop a night crawler down with a light weight let it bounce through the rapids, and Bam you’re gonna get something.
Or ease on over to White Street and just drop a night crawler and let it sit on the bottom you’re gonna pick something up.
Smallmouth: Been too cold for them to really get activated. Hoping next week we get some live crawfish and a little bit of sunshine. Between those two things the small mouth bite ought to pick up sign significantly.
Have fun, be safe, good luck fishing.
