Warmer weather and some rain in the form of thunderstorms headed our way this morning. That 40 degree  Maumee river water flowing into it has triggered that first batch of walleyes spawning instinct and they have begun the journey up river. This weekly leader in the Big Jack Contest is 4.16 lbs ..contest runs  Monday morning thru Sunday 5 pm.

We saw a few fish taken at  Orleans park, Ft. Meigs , and Bluegrass . All areas will be accessible to fish today. The Towpath has also been a good area to try .The Towpath Trail follows the remains of the Miami and Erie Canals along the old Towpath where mules towed flat-bottom boats along the waterway. The trail is also part of the Buckeye Trail System, one of the most significant long distance walking trails in the state. Runs Our local portion runs from White street all the way up thru Grand Rapids Ohio.  Along their way are some of the Metro pakrs with public fishing access. Farnsworth and Bend View Metro parks  both in Waterville OH ,just 10 min up the road from us.  Providence Dam Metro Park and Mary Jane Thurston State park  also have great fishing Locations. We get many complaints that the river is too crowded during the Walleye run to enjoy the experience . My solution is to get out and expleor–its a BIG river full of thousands and thousands of fish, Crappie ,big cats, pike and smallmouth bass  just to name a few are also fish to target during the spring. The spawning walleye don’t just come to Maumee and stop, they spread out all along the river where there is rocky/gravely  bottom.These areas are usually full of fish during the spawning run and empty of anglers-so stop in the shop and we can point out some less crowded areas along the river.
