maumee river report -7 march 2026

BLUEGRASS ISLAND:   Crossing is permitted

Button wood, Davis and Bluegrass island are the most likely areas today to try , as those areas have the best current in this low water. 

I’m thinking down river too where the water is a bit deeper.  Corey st acces(Ft. Miamis) or  Rossford marina. 

 

Our area still hasn’t received much rain.  All the weather systems have gone north or south of us. But it has warmed up so we have that part of the season going for us.  Most of the ice is gone,

so now that river is staring to warm .

We heard of a few suckers caught yesterday so that bodes well as the walleye are usually pretty close behind.

Keeping up with the trends

1960s– Simple lead head- twist it the right way and yank away.

(still works on a cold day like today with a juicy piece of worm attached- gets bites)

1970s

Dollflys- leadhead with a bit of yarn or hair attached. Gets some bites and keep yankin’ .

 

1980s- plastic more prevalent now

Leadhead with twistertail- more bites? Maybe?

Definitly more DNR presence.

 

1990s- 2000s

Lots of DNR and Tech.

Carolina rig – floater and tail , egg or trolling sinker

More bites.

 

Modern day –

Carolina rig – tail and or no tail.

More bites – less snags?

Which is best ? WHO KNOWS !
