Maumee River Report – Leap Year -February 29 ,2020

Tomorrow starts spring spawning run regulation time period. Which includes the sunrise /sunset time restrictions. Below I have posted the times for “first cast and last cast” for the month of March . I  will post the daily times in the report as well.  This portion of the rule mean that you can not fish before sunrise and must be done fishing by the sunset time posted.  Basically no night fishing. Since the walleye are nocturnal and thus  feed and spawn heavily at night … we don’t want it too easy. The reason your catch rates are likely to be higher after the sun sets is because walleye have extraordinary night vision. This excellent night vision is a result of the walleye’s photosensitive eyes.

Today is brutal cold again but it should be the last day of this cold snap – looking ahead we should have a nice warm rest of  week in the mid 40’s to 50 .
