With the temperature continuing to drop, there will be more and more steelhead beginning to feed with the goal of putting on some winter weight. Typically we want the water temperature to be between 50-55 degrees when targeting steelhead. As at this temperature the fish are aggressive and willing to chase lures such as spinners and rooster tails. Once the water gets cooler; they will become sluggish and less likely to strike. Primarily these fish can be targeted near water that is clear, and near rapids. As for what to use, there is a variety. Many people have success with rooster tails, spinnerbaits, or a jig tipped with a waxworm or minnow under a bobber.Â
We have been hearing good reports out by the dam, using a leadhead and a twistertail, targeting either walleye or steelhead. Send us pictures of your recent catches to our email: maumeetackle@gmail.com or through instagram @maumeetackleÂ
