Reality:As long as the river isn’t raging and you choose your spots wisely, you can catch walleye from a kayak.

The Maumee River walleye run for decades has been a rather big deal, drawing anglers from all over the world . Also on hand are watchers wearing badges.

Not that most anglers are much attracted to each other. Still, the casters sometimes line up wader-deep close enough so that polite snuff users must gauge wind direction and speed before they spit.

The Maumee has its share of walleyes that come in with that  spring spawning urge. That starts generally in mid-March with the arrival of smaller males, known as jacks, soon followed by heavier and occasionally humongous egg-laden females, known as hens.
