Bluegrass Island- Crossing is permitted

Buttonwood , bluegrass island and Jerome rd rapids were the best.

We saw a whole lot of 13-14 inchers caught the last two days. Some big females mixed in with them as well and of course the spawning 18-20 inch males–kinda strange to see all those sizes in the mix.

Still banging them out.

Walleye spawning is closely tied to water temperature, with males typically arriving at spawning grounds when water temperatures reach a few degrees above freezing and females arriving later. The peak spawning period is when water temperatures range from 42 to 50 degrees- like right about now.

Some studies suggest  that the destination of a first-time spawning walleye probably is a chance occurrence. As the first-time spawners travel with adults–like migrating geese in fall–following them to spawning sites.

Have fun , be safe and good luck fishing.
