Maumee River report 18 September 2026

The cooler temperatures and rain the last few days has the water temperature in the Maumee river down about 5 degrees and is triggering the fall fishing bite. here are some tips by on a few species that will be active this fall.

Northern Pike-Mid September to November

Use Spinner baits ,buzz baits , large brightly colored crank baits bouncing off the bottom. Skim the top of vegetation and deep-water structures. In cooler temperatures Pike cruise weed beds looking for their next meal.

Fall Crappie

Crappies are moving back into shallow water to feed. Cover and baitfish are key to locating schools of crappie. Marabou jigs and minnows suspended by a bobber is effective. Present jigs and minnows around woody cover by casting or vertical jigging.

Catfish (Been a good catfish season this year)

Catfish school tightly this time of year in preparation for winter. Fish areas next to deeper waters, especially areas near flats that cool down rapidly at night, or are located near feeder streams. Catfish tend to eat the most available foods. Schools of open water gizzard shad and bluegills are ideal bait for larger fish because they are common items in catfish diets.
