WEIGHT: 3/4 oz – 1 oz

BLUEGRASS ISLAND:  Probably don’t cross. As of this morning it’s doable but the water is going to rise today and you don’t want get stuck out there.

COLORS: Still hittin with those chartreuse variations.  Green head/ Xmas lights tail. Orange head / firetiger tail  black head/ orange tail.

Hit and miss yesterday. Some ones and twos.  Mostly Button wood and Bluegrass island.

We need rain for a good push of fish from the lake.

Word is the Sandusky is producing pretty good . They are always a week or so ahead of us due to the  Sandusky river warming a bit quicker.

Maumee Tackle – Fishing, Kayaking & Shooting Outfitters

So…. we have been getting a lot of questions about the water temperature, and accuracy of the reported temp.
There is a government website that  currently says the Maumee River is 60° or higher. I look at that site as well. I also go to the river and touch the actual water . I try and give the best reading I can get for you guys.
Here’s the thing . On the government site that is a laser thermometer pointed at the water surface. The water surface. The surface. When the sun is shining on the water surface (that’s the very top of the water) the thermometer is reading the direct heat reflection on the surface of the water. That top micro- milometer of the surface might be 60 degrees or more.
Now the actual water column, that’s everything under the surface, is significantly colder. Ice just came off the river a few days ago , so c’mon man, its really cold – right around 40 degrees. Not 60 .
Walleye thrive in the cold water ,  they need that cold water to spawn and for the eggs to hatch and thrive.
In the summer the govt site shows water temps in the high 90’s- IF it was ever in the high 90’s -everything I mean everything  in the river would be dead and boiled alive.
Take these computer generated readings with a grain of salt.
Point in case: the weather forecast is rarely human thought generated,  mostly just a computer spittin out some data . Look how accurate that turns out.
Just sayin- Mario
Have fun, be safe and good luck fishing.
