The freeze-warm-freeze-warm -freeze again weather cycle we have experienced here in Northwwest Ohio has put a virtual end to the local ice fishing season. We have reports of good ice as you head north into Michigan. Quite a few anglers are headed to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula this weekend to target some bluegill, crappie, perch and walleye.  We have kept our ice fishing supplies out while we are in the process of changing over the shop in prep for spring walleye season.

As far as the Maumee river is concerned most of the river is open water, although the next weeks worth of cold weather may put a thin layer of ice on it again. Last week when we had those warm days it got the catfish and carp out and moving . I saw some nice pictures of some big cats that had been caught( 30 plus pounders) and the buffaloe carp being caught were all in the 10-15 lb range .

With this year being more or less a traditional winter the coming walleye run should follow suit, with the early jacks (males) starting to show in March as that water temperature reaches the mid 40 degree mark.  Of course spring rains, wind, late snowstorms, sunshine and all of mother natures tricks play a factor . Last year we had quite a few days during the peak of the run when the river was full of walleye but unfishable due to high raging waterlevels.  This year we are also expecting to see a large number of those 3 yr old walleye from the enormous 2014 hatch , these fish after fatting up all last summer and fall should now be over the 15 in keeper size range . And oh yea the 2015 hatch was enormous as well,so we have more than a few years of great fishing ahead of us.

We are fully stocked right now and ready with walleye supplies for those that want to stop in and beat the rush.

-Waders and accesories for all sizes and budgets.

-lead molds, pots and supplies for do it yourself sinker production.

-Full line of St. Croix in stock- Series Mojo Bass-Triumph- Premier-Panfish -Avid-Avid X and Eyecons.

-Bulk packaged floating jigheads and twister tail grubs.

-Stringers,nets,jig eye punches, tools and much much more.

If your from out of town give us a call and we can put together and ship your order.

As always its going to be fun seeing what the season brings and adapting to the river conditions for that wonderful fishing expedience

Have fun, be safe and good luck fishing.
