Not a whole lot to report from yesterday, the water came up about 5 feet so far. All that rain that hit the region finally made it into the river , and like I said the water came up significantly.
Yesterday and probably this morning the river is full of quite a bit of debris, leaves, branches, and full size trees. It made fishing very difficult yesterday.
The good news is that this rain is gonna bring in a monster push of Walleye that have been spotted staging just off the mouth of the river and waiting for the temperature to come up and the water levels to rise.
If you fish today it may be pretty tough. First and foremost do not venture into the water. It is moving really fast and won’t take much to sweep you away. Just fish from the shore, short cast, look for any small break in the current, or an eddy. The fish will be tucked up in any little bit of current relief that they can get. Days like this have been very productive catching fish 10 feet or less offshore .
In the meantime while we’re waiting for the river to calm down a little bit, the crappie and bluegill are starting to bite. And I mean the big ones.
Here at the shop we are stocked up with worms, wax worms, and a fresh batch of emerald shiners
Have fun, be safe, and good luck fishing
