BIG JACK OF THE WEEK!
Every year I’m sure you hear from your best friends uncle, that has a best friend that’s best friends with the game warden that this rule or that rule is in effect. For example -There is some sort of river myth out there that live bait is not permitted during the spawning run- NOT TRUE. Live bait is just fine and some times a piece of juicy night crawler can spark a bite on a slow day. Live bait is traditionally not used because the strong current and rocks usually rip the bait right off just about every cast, so plastics are more durable.
Crack open the fishing regulations for yourself, free here at the shop.
It has been a very good walleye run so far. Its been cold(for us) but the water temps have been just right for those walleye to run up and spawn. The run started a bit early this year and has been running stead most of the month. Today its going to be warmer so should be a bit more fun than toughing out a limit with that wind cutting through you.
Bright colors have been consistent this season. Green heads/Xmas lights tails, Orange heads/ black tails, Red heads. pink tails.
Faster water today, Bluegrass Island, Buttonwood, were the hot spots. Jerome rapids was just OK nothing special. We will see what happens today.
Have fun, be safe and good luck fishing
